From struggling to thriving… it all starts here.
I’m Tricia Owens, a licensed mental health counselor, registered nurse, and owner of Grow Your Own Way Counseling Services.
My work is grounded in science, psychology, and human experience.
Through my own life experience, I’ve come to understand the value of having nonjudgmental, professional support and the difference it can make. That perspective continues to shape how I show up in my work.
Most of what people struggle with makes sense when you take the time to understand it—how it developed, what it’s connected to, and how it’s been reinforced over time.
Whatever is causing you stress… there IS a pathway through it!

My Approach
I believe that all people have the capacity to heal and grow, often in ways they may not have thought possible.
In my view, people are suffering—not weak, broken, or failing.
I approach mental health the same way I approach physical health. When something isn’t working well, symptoms begin to show up as signals—not as problems to eliminate or ignore, but as something that needs attention, understanding, and care.
People often seek support during a difficult time and begin to feel more stable as things settle. Feeling more stable is an important part of the process—but it’s often just the beginning. Deeper understanding creates the opportunity for more lasting change. I support you through that process—building trust, increasing awareness, exploring different perspectives, and deepening understanding in a way that creates opportunities for lasting change and a more fulfilling life.
A little bit about me
My background as both a nurse and a therapist allows me to integrate the connection between mental and physical health, and to approach emotional experiences with both compassion and a strong understanding of how the body and brain respond to stress, patterns, and change.
I began my career in nursing, where I was drawn to the emotional, educational, and psychosocial aspects of care. I often saw how much of treatment focused on stabilizing symptoms—only for people to return to the same place again. That experience shaped how I think about health. Stabilization is an important first step, but it’s not the same as truly feeling well—physically or mentally.
Over time, I became more interested in helping people understand what was happening and take a more active role in their health. My work is focused on supporting that deeper level of understanding so that change is not only possible, but sustainable.
